London Stained Glass

London Area Stained Glass Supplier
Leadbitter Glass deliver Overlay Stained Glass panels to homes all around London. Delivery is usually free and lead time is usually just a few weeks. We supply hundreds of homes around London with our Leaded Glass (Overlay Stained Glass) every year. In the olden days stained glass was manufactured using small pieces of glass fixed together with a lead strip. Although this procedure is sometimes still used today, the modern overlay stained glass is a more popular and versatile product. This Leaded Glass can be found all over the country and it is especially popular in the London area. Our form of Leaded Glass has been used on some of London’s grand buildings and executive homes.
Leadbitter Glass also provides Etched Glass, Bevelled Glass and Fused Glass to London homes.

Toughened glass can be used in our stained glass along with self adhesive lead strip and transparent colour overlays. These materials produce a beautiful effect that lasts. When using natural lead strip, we can solder the joints of the lead to help make it unrecognisable from the traditional method. For some of the larger projects in the London area we can actually come out and visit you to discuss your aims and ideas. Our lass project through our Executive Service is perfect for larger commissions where the client needs one to one advice. We can also design manufacture and deliver the glass to the London area by using our Client Pages service to help keep the costs down. This service is chosen by most of our clients.

What are the benefits of modern stained glass in London?
The modern procedure has many advantages over the older stained glass technique. Energy saving is a big concern in todays world and our leaded glass is more efficient than the older version. With the glass design being manufactured as a stained glass overlay onto a single sheet of glass, this reduces the possibility of the cold weather coming into the home through the joints of the design. Modern leaded glass can also be applied directly onto energy saving Pilkington K Glass. This glass is now a building regulations requirement for every new window and door installation throughout London and the UK.

Durability and security are another advantage with the modern day stained glass technique. This is one of the major concerns for London home owners. Applying the design directly onto toughened safety glass or laminated glass provides long lasting and secure decorative glass. In the past people have paid thousands of pounds for the old stained glass products. Only to find that small coloured sections of the design have cracked within weeks. This cannot happen with our product.

The materials
There are literally hundreds of overlay colours to choose from for use in the modern day stained glass. Most colours can be combined with a frosted overlay to create an even larger range of colours. The lead strip also comes in many colours with the old favourite through the 80’s and 90’s being natural lead colour. Today almost every job we create in the London area is manufactured using Aged Antique Lead which is dark in colour.

Leadbitter Glass have many different lead finishes to choose from and you can view these different finishes in our Leaded Glass section. If you are planning to have leaded glass or any decorative glass supplied for your London home or business, make sure that you contact us today to receive an accurate quote and turnaround time for your Stained Glass.
Recent Leaded Glass commissions around London….
Mackintosh Themed Door Glass
In 2013 we created dozens of Rennie Mackintosh style glass panels for a large home in North London. The panels below were created for the front door of the home using our Margaret’s Rose pattern. This is a very large door so the glass is taller than it looks at 1600mm high. The homeowner also ordered glass for kitchen doors and shower rooms. All of the glass had a similar Mackintosh theme and you can see the drawings we created for the client here.

Large Abstract Window
This stunning modern Leaded Glass Window was created for clients in around 2010. The large window was created with toughened safety glass and effect coloured overlays.
Paddington Bear Glass For Movie Franchise
In 2013 Marmalade Films based in London asked us to create Paddington Bears toplight for his home at 32 Windsor Gardens. Since then Leadbitter Glass has been the approved supplier of decorative glass for the subsequent movies. We also supplied the glass for the neighbours home – Mr Curry. Recently we supplied glass for a new John Cena movie – Heads Of State which is due for release in 2025. The glass for Heads Of State was for – Air force One. We created 6 Presidents Crests for doors aboard the Presidents plane.
Stained Glass Roundels Door
This stunning door was created for a London client who actually made his own wooden door. The customer was a carpenter and wanted to re-create a traditional stained glass door but also wanted to conserve heat from the home. We hand made these stained glass roundels and created the design as double glazed toughened glass units.
Rainbow Coloured Door & Side Panels
The below drawing was created for London clients in 2023. The client wanted random colours with a slight Rainbow theme for their front doorway. We showed the client a previous job we had created to see if this was the type of look they were trying to achieve. It was, and the client placed the order. Stippolyte glass was used as the base glass along with overlays stained glass colours and a dark lead strip.

Mackintosh Themed Stained Glass Window
This large window was created again, using one solid sheet of toughened safety glass. We applied the chosen colours to the toughened glass and also added 4 bevelled glass pieces. We UV bonded the bevelled glass sections to the base Stippolyte Glass and you can see the bevels turn the Stippolyte clear.
American Bevelled And Stained Toughened Glass Doors
The bevelled glass drawing below was a proof we supplied to a London client back in 2018. This American Bevelled design is a unique pattern and it is the only version of this design we have supplied to date. The glass panels were extremely large at 2.4 metres tall and 6mm toughened safety glass was used as the base glass. The bevelled pieces were UV bonded to the toughened safety glass and this makes these panels a lot more durable than the traditional method of stained glass.

Frank Lloyd Wright Doorway
In 2017 we created a bespoke set of panels for the doorway of a London home. This FLW design is our popular Illinois design and this commission was created using Minster textured glass. The 1930s style door required new toughened overlay stained glass as the original glass had become fragile over time. The weather was coming through the glass and some of the pieces were broken. We sketched the planned design for customer approval and the customer requested a couple of colour changes. We then manufactured the glass and it was delivered to the home a few weeks later.
