Decorative Glass in St Albans

Leadbitter Glass manufactures and delivers many different forms of decorative glass around the St Albans area. We manufacture and deliver Etched Glass, Bevelled Glass, Overlay Stained Glass and Fused Glass panels. We specialise in manufacturing and delivering bespoke glass to residential customers but we have also supplied glass for use in blockbuster movies and some of the worlds largest corporations.

4 Types Of Decorative Glass Available…

1 – Etched Glass to St Albans

Of the many types of decorative glass we supply, Etched Glass is one of the most popular requests we receive from the St Albans area. The image above shows what etched glass looks like and basically, it is an obscure background with a clear design. All designs are obviously available in the opposite style – clear background and etched design. We have hundreds of designs in our Etched Glass Gallery and popular styles are Traditional or our Shadows Of Nature.

Other popular etched glass galleries are our Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the House Names and Numbers gallery. We can also create bespoke etched glass panels based on your own photos or drawings. All glass is available single or double glazed. As with all decorative glass orders, a scale proof is created for client approval before the glass is started.

Etched Glass Dragon

In 2017 a client from St Albans sent us a drawing of a Dragon they wanted etching for their double glazed door. The title link above shows the CGI drawing we created for customer approval. The glass was a slim, tall double glazed unit for the centre of their new door. The background of the glass was etched with the detail of the dragon being clear glass.

Etched Glass Lions For St Albans Pub

In 2013 a client enquired if we had any etched glass Lion designs for a project they had. The client lived in a house that was previously The Black Lion Pub in St Albans. We directed the client to our Etched Glass Inspirations page where we did have a photo of an etched glass Lion. This ‘inspirations’ section of the website contains images of glass that we didn’t actually create. It is a great section of the site to get ideas or inspiration. The client liked the lion featured on that page but required a flat version instead of a deep carved version. The main link above shows a photo of the completed project.

2 – Overlay Stained Glass to St Albans

The above image shows a great example of an Overlay Stained Glass panel. This type of glass is also one of the most popular requests we receive from the St Albans area. As with all of our glass, single glazed and double glazed options are available. Toughened safety glass is supplied as standard for all orders. Popular styles requested are chosen from our Charles Rennie Mackintosh gallery and the Frank Lloyd Wright gallery.

There are many other patterns to choose from such as Countryside Landscapes and traditional designs from our extensive Door Galleries. The Main Gallery is the place to start and if you cannot find a suitable design, send us your own design. We create bespoke glass panels every day so we can also make glass inspired by your current glass or from a photo/drawing you have.

Mackintosh Themed Landing Window – St Albans

In 2015 a client spotted our popular Renfrew design and asked for a quote to have this design in their Landing Window. The most popular coloured version was chosen which contains some lovely warm orange and yellow effects. The client approved the proof and the glass was then manufactured. You can see our drawing in the main title link above.

Floral Stained Glass Victorian Malton Door

In 2024 a client spotted one of our previous bespoke designs that we created for a client. This new client had a Malton Door so it was 2 slim panels and not one larger unit. The client also requested a different border colour. We redesigned the pattern to work a 2 slim panels and sent the proof to the customer. They approved the glass and the drawing we supplied can be seen in the title link above.

Split Stars Door With Matching Fanlight

In 2024 we were asked by a St Albans client to supply 3 matching panels for their door and fanlight. The design they liked was our 255 design but they wanted to choose different colours. There is no extra charge for changing colours so we gave the client the price. Once the order was placed we sent the client a drawing of how we felt the design looked good. The client loved the drawing and the job was approved. The title link above shows you the CGI drawing created for customer approval.

3 – Fused Glass to St Albans

The photo above shows one of our Fused Glass leaves that is used in our popular fused glass patterns. Our fused glass panels are created by etching the background with the addition of stunning fused glass tiles. We create these hand-made fused glass tiles in our UK studio and many colours can be requested.

Popular fused glass galleries include our Mackintosh Gallery and our Tree Of Life Gallery. Our fused glass tiles are all hand cut and then they are placed in our kiln. 18 hours later they are fused and ready to be used to make our stunning glass panels. Fused Glass tiles are some of the most beautiful glass features we make. As standard, all glass is toughened and can be supplied single or double glazed.

American Bevelled Glass

4 – Bevelled Glass to St Albans

The image above is a Bevelled Glass window we created for clients in Chelsea. This design is part of our popular American Bevelled Glass range and the photo is stunning example of the beauty of bevels. There are thousands of bevels to choose from and we can create toughened glass panels with stunning bevelled patterns. Again, single or double glazed is available and as standard we produce a drawing for approval before manufacture.

Rennie Mackintosh Bevelled Glass Door Panel

In 2018 we created a Mackintosh themed bevelled glass panel for clients in St Albans. The link above shows the job once it was installed in the clients home. The glass panel was a 1930s / stable door style door. The design they selected came from our Glasgow Range which contains bevelled glass and etched glass elements.

Mackintosh Bevelled Glass Arch Window

In 2016 our studio was approached by a couple in St Albans to see if we could create 3 panels for a large arched window. The link above shows the proof we supplied to the client before we made the actual glass. We do this for all orders. The design they selected was our 626 design from the Glasgow Range.

What we do

Our decorative glass studio specialises in creating bespoke decorative glass panels for homes and businesses in St Albans. We also supply our glass anywhere in the UK and we sometimes receive orders from around the world. Most of the orders we receive are from homeowners looking to replace their old or damaged glass. If you have plain or boring glass in your front door we can supply stunning new decorative glass to give your door a whole new lease of life.

We supply toughened safety glass as standard for all our products. You can choose single or double-glazed options or even triple glazed glass if it is required. We can provide laminated or Fire rated glass but these types of glass carry extra charges on top of a standard quotation.

Our service

When customers place an order with us, they get to preview their glass design before we make the actual glass. Our glass artists create high quality proofs to show you, the client exactly how your glass will look before manufacture. Once you get to see the drawings, you would have the opportunity to request alterations to the layout and colours. We only create the actual glass once the client has told us the design is absolutely perfect.

After creating the glass, we deliver it directly to your St Albans home or your chosen window or door supplier.

We also supply Decorative glass to the surrounding areas of St Albans including:
