Stained Glass Bathroom Window – Somerset
Hello Mark, here is your Overlay Stained Glass bathroom window design chosen from this recent job using your glass sizes. The colours on the drawing [...]
Founded in 1994, the Leadbitter Glass Studio has been supplying Overlay Stained Glass panels to homes and businesses across Taunton ever since, delivering to every other part of the UK too. Taunton Minster’s chancel windows were made by Clayton and Bell to mark Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887, beneath a tower widely regarded as the finest in Somerset.

Every panel that leaves our studio is designed and built in-house — either from your own photo or idea, or from one of the hundreds of patterns in our gallery. It’s supplied as toughened single glazing or a double-glazed unit, whichever suits your Taunton home, and works just as well on a front door as it does on a landing window. Most orders qualify for free delivery across the town.

We’ve made glass for a Prime Minister’s home and for Hollywood film sets over the years, but the bulk of our work goes into ordinary front doors across Taunton. We also produce other styles of Decorative Glass for Taunton clients, including Bevelled Glass, Etched Glass, and Fused Glass.

Once you’ve placed an order, we open a private Client Page just for you, and a few days later a full-colour, to-scale drawing of your design goes up on it. That’s your chance to check the colours actually work in context, not just on a screen. Want a warmer tone, or the motif made a touch larger? Say the word and we’ll redraw it, however many times it takes — the glass doesn’t get cut until you’ve told us to go ahead.

Traditional leaded glass has always had one obvious flaw: it’s a patchwork of small pieces held together by strips of soft lead, and cold air finds its way through those joints eventually. We build our Overlay Stained Glass differently, applying both the leadwork and the colour directly onto a single sheet of toughened safety glass — one continuous surface rather than a lattice of separate pieces.
Pilkington K Glass is also available if you need it, and current building regulations require it for new window and door installations across Taunton and the rest of the UK.

Durability isn’t an afterthought for us — every panel we build is made with toughened or laminated safety glass from the outset.
We hear plenty of stories from customers who once spent good money on old-fashioned leaded glass, only to see individual pieces crack within weeks of fitting. Overlay Stained Glass was designed specifically to put a stop to that.

We start by hand-shaping lead strips across a sheet of toughened glass, tracing your design in outline with no colour applied yet. Once that’s done, we turn the glass over and begin the colourwork — each piece painted individually, sitting within its own leaded boundary.
Matching lead lines then go onto the reverse to mirror the front exactly, so the finished panel is leaded and coloured on both sides, not just the one you see first.

Several lead finishes are available — visit our Leaded Glass page for the full choice.
