Etched Glass Taunton
Founded in 1994, the Leadbitter Glass Studio has been supplying Etched Glass panels to homes and businesses across Taunton ever since, delivering to every other part of the UK too. The Georgian terraces around Taunton’s town centre, close to the Minster’s famous tower, are exactly the kind of period housing where etched glass has always looked its best.

Every etched glass panel we make starts on our own workbench, not in a warehouse somewhere else. Etched glass, sometimes called sandblasted glass, is made by obscuring sections of clear glass to form a decorative pattern, while leaving the rest untouched. There’s no such thing as an off-the-shelf design here — every panel is built to your own glass sizes, and requests for family crests, favourite trees, and traditional Victorian motifs are all part of a normal week for us. The vast majority of orders qualify for free delivery across Taunton.

It’s one of the oldest decorative glass techniques still in regular use, and part of the reason for that longevity is simple — it lets in more daylight than coloured glass, with none of the tint getting in the way. Our glass has turned up in a Prime Minister’s home and on Hollywood film sets, though most weeks it’s Taunton homeowners we’re making for. We also produce other styles of Decorative Glass for Taunton clients, including Stained Glass, Bevelled Glass, and Fused Glass.

Our Free Client Pages Design Service
Before we touch the sandblaster, you’ll see exactly what we’re planning to make. Every Taunton order comes with its own Client Page, and within a few days of ordering, one of our glass artists posts a computer-drawn proof built to your exact glass sizes. Not happy with the spacing, or want a different font on the house name? Just tell us — we’ll amend the drawing and send it back, and keep going for as long as it takes. Nothing leaves the design stage until you say it’s ready.

Perfect For House Names And Numbers
Etched glass suits house names and numbers particularly well, and it’s one of our most common requests for the fanlight above a front door. If your Taunton home has one, we can create a panel showing your house number or name. For the sharpest result, we generally etch the surrounding background and leave the lettering itself clear, so it stands out at a glance.

How Our Etched Glass Is Made
Walk through our studio on a busy day and you’ll find sheets of toughened safety glass laid out with a mask cut precisely to shape, ready for the sandblasting cabinet. The blaster wears down every exposed part of the glass at real pressure, leaving a permanent frost wherever the mask isn’t protecting it — and a clean, glossy finish everywhere it is.
That’s the whole trick, really — no paint, no printed film, just abrasion cut directly into the glass. It’s why a genuine etched panel never fades or peels the way a cheap vinyl “etch effect” sticker does within a couple of years.

If you’ve an old etched panel at home that’s cracked or lost, send a photo through and we’ll see what we can do — our glass artists can often reproduce the original pattern closely, even without the piece itself.
