See your glass before it is made!

If you place an order with us you will receive our unique free design service. The Client Pages Service is a great way to view your chosen design in your sizes before our glass artists make the actual glass. A few days after ordering, one of our artists will create and send you your very own Computer Generated Image. You can then request alterations to the design before the artist starts work creating your panel(s). You may want a border moving or some more decoration added. We will make the changes you request and if you need any more changes, just let us know. Alterations are free so there are no more fees to pay. We want you to be 100% happy with how your glass will look before we create it.

Etched Glass Window

Your numbers up!

Etched glass is the best type of decorative glass for creating house names and numbers in door glass or Transoms. Many homes in the Newbury area have glass panels above the door. This glazed area is commonly known as a transom. It may also be called a fanlight or a toplight. Transoms are a great place to show the name or number of your home. These types of panels are one of the most popular glass orders we receive. If your home has a door transom, we can create your house name or number in your chosen font. You can also request a decorative etched glass border to finish off the panel. We can also create matching glass panels for your door if required.

How is Etched Glass made?

We DO NOT use ‘stickers’ on our etched glass panels, we etch the glass as the name suggests. Etched glass is made when the glass is sandblasted at high pressure. This makes the pattern permanent so it will not discolour or peel. Some companies offer ‘Etched Glass’ but just apply an etched effect sticker to the glass. Stickers can discolour with exposure to the suns UV rays and the vinyl stickers can and will shrink. Other companies screen-print the ‘Etched Glass Effect’ onto the glass and this product can also ‘yellow’. Always confirm you are paying for a genuine glass product because as the saying goes – Buy cheap, Buy twice. Whilst delivering around Berkshire we have spotted fake etched glass panels in numerous areas. See a result of ordering fake etched glass.

The process

A temporary mask is ‘cut to shape’ by a computerised machine. The full mask is applied to the glass, then the areas of the design that need to be etched are removed from the pattern. The stencilled glass is then sandblasted by an automatic blasting booth and a coarse grit is fired across the panel at high pressure.

Once an even etch is achieved, the mask is then peeled away from the glass. The protected areas have been left clear with the unprotected areas now displaying an etched finish. Single glazed glass has a protective sandblast coating applied to the etched glass side. If the glass is to be double glazed, we do not add this coating because the etched side would be protected within the sealed unit.
