Stained Glass Woking

Founded in 1994, the Leadbitter Glass Studio has been supplying Overlay Stained Glass panels to homes and businesses across Woking ever since, delivering to every other part of the UK too. St John’s Church, designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott and founded in 1840, holds a stained glass window made in Munich in memory of the Reverend Charles Bowles, depicting Christ blessing children and raising the son of the widow of Nain.

Every panel is designed and manufactured in our own Decorative Glass Studio — either from your own photo or idea, or from one of the hundreds of patterns in our gallery. Our Overlay Stained Glass comes as either toughened single glazing or a resilient double-glazed unit, and suits a front door, a landing window, or any other glazed opening in the home equally well. The great majority of orders qualify for free delivery across Woking.

We’ve supplied Overlay Stained Glass for a Prime Minister’s home, for Hollywood film sets, and for well-known musicians and billionaires — though the vast majority of what we make is still for homeowners across Woking. We also produce other styles of Decorative Glass for Woking clients, including Bevelled Glass, Etched Glass, and Fused Glass.

Our Free Client Pages Design Service

Nobody wants to commit to a colour scheme they’ve never actually seen. That’s why every Woking order comes with a private Client Page, where a few days after ordering we upload a full-colour, exact-scale drawing of your panel. If a shade looks too dark against your hallway, or a motif needs enlarging, tell us and we’ll adjust it — no limit on how many rounds it takes to get right. Production doesn’t begin until you’re satisfied with what you see.

How Our Stained Glass Is Made

Old-style leaded glass has a habit of letting the weather in around every joint, since it’s essentially dozens of small pieces held together by soft lead alone. Our version sidesteps that problem entirely by building the whole design onto a single sheet of toughened safety glass — the leadwork and the colour both go onto that one sheet, rather than around individual pieces of glass.

We can also fit Pilkington K Glass where needed, which current building regulations require for new window and door installations across Woking and the rest of the UK.

Durability matters as much to us as the design itself, which is why toughened or laminated safety glass is used throughout.

Traditional leaded glass could cost a small fortune and still crack within weeks of going in — not an unusual story from homeowners who’ve been caught out before. Our Overlay Stained Glass is built precisely to avoid that.

Our process

We hand-shape lead strips onto the toughened glass first, tracing the outline of your design with no colour applied yet. The sheet is then turned over and the colourwork begins — each section painted individually, set within its own leaded boundary.

Once that’s finished, matching lead lines are applied to the back to mirror the front exactly, giving you a panel that’s leaded and coloured on both faces rather than just one.

A choice of lead finishes is available too — see our Leaded Glass page for the full range.
