Founded in 1994, the Leadbitter Glass Studio has been supplying Etched Glass panels to homes and businesses across Hounslow ever since, delivering to every other part of the UK too. Hounslow Heath Aerodrome opened in 1919 as Britain’s first purpose-built international airport, the place air travel first took off out of this country.
Etched glass — sandblasted glass, more plainly — permanently frosts sections of clear glass to leave a pattern that becomes genuinely part of the pane. Every panel is built to your own glass sizes, giving your home something genuinely its own, in the same pioneering spirit as Hounslow’s own first flights. How Our Etched Glass Is Made
We begin with a sheet of toughened safety glass and apply a mask cut precisely to your chosen pattern. High-pressure abrasive blasted onto the exposed glass wears it down to a permanent frost, while everything under the mask stays perfectly clear — a genuinely new look, given the same lift a first flight once got.
Because that frost is worked into the glass rather than laid over it, there’s nothing to peel or discolour later — unlike a stick-on “etch effect” film, which tends to yellow and start lifting within a couple of years.
