Operating from our proprietary Decorative Glass Studio, we specialize in the meticulous handcrafting of exquisite glass panels. We make panels based on customers’ personalized images or selected from our extensive gallery. Notably, our contemporary Stained Glass offerings are available in the form of toughened single glazed glass or resilient toughened double glazed units. Whether it’s glass for doors, captivating feature windows, or any glazed area within a home, our versatile creations fit seamlessly into diverse spaces. Furthermore, nearly every panel we produce qualifies for complimentary delivery to homes in the Hastings area.

We have supplied our Overlay Stained Glass panels to a Prime Minister, Hollywood movies, world famous singers and billionaires but almost all of the glass we create is for homeowners around the country. The number 32 above is the actual panel we created for the Paddington Bear movies. We produce other forms of Decorative Glass for Hastings clients, including Etched Glass, Bevelled Glass, and Fused Glass.

Our services

After ordering, you get access to our free Client Pages Service. Here, a Computer Generated Proof is crafted to show you your chosen design in your custom glass sizes. A proof arrives a few days post-order, allowing layout changes before panel production. This ensures your complete satisfaction. Whether adjusting a decorative border or modifying a design element’s color, we make these amendments until you’re 100% happy with the layout. Once you approve the drawing, production begins.

We regularly deliver around the Hastings area so we welcome enquiries from towns throughout East Sussex.

How Overlay Stained Glass Is Made

The modern procedure has many advantages over the older stained glass technique. Energy saving is a big concern in todays world and our leaded glass is more efficient than the older version. With the design being created by hand as a stained glass overlay onto a single sheet of toughened glass, this reduces the possibility of the cold weather coming into the home through the joints of the design. Modern leaded glass can also be made using energy saving Pilkington K Glass. This glass is now a building regulations requirement for every new window and door installation throughout Hastings and other areas of the UK.

Durability and security are another advantage with the modern day stained glass technique. These are some of the major concerns for Hastings home owners. Manufacturing the designs with toughened safety glass or laminated glass provides long lasting and secure decorative glass. In the past people have paid thousands of pounds for the old stained glass products. Only to find that small coloured sections of the design have cracked within weeks. This cannot happen with our modern form of Stained Glass.

Leadbitter Glass has supplied many homes in and around Hastings with our beautiful stained glass. Here are examples of local orders…..

3 Panel Mackintosh Door – Hastings

A client in Hastings requested a unique set of panels to be created for their new front door. They loved our Mackintosh Renfrew Design but our website wasn’t showing them a version to suit their specific door. The reason for this is their door was quite a unique door with 3 slim panels in the top. Most doors have just the 2 panels in the top so we show many designs in that type of format. We gave the client a quote and they placed the order. Before manufacture we created 2 new drawings to show the client. The client selected one and we manufactured the glass and delivered it to their home in Hastings. The title link above takes you to their Client Page to view the drawings.

Art Deco Landing Window – Hastings

Back in 2017 we were approached by a client in Hastings to see if we could create an Art Deco design for their landing window. The 4 panels were supplied as double glazed units and as with all orders, we created drawings for approval. The title link above shows you the drawing that was approved before we made the actual glass.

Our process

Lead strips are meticulously worked by hand, delicately applied to a sheet of toughened safety glass, resulting in an uncolored outline of the pattern. Subsequently, the glass is flipped over. Complementary stained glass colors are precisely cut to shape and meticulously affixed to the glass surface. Upon achieving a fully colored design, identical lead strips are strategically applied to mirror the positions on the opposite side. This meticulous process culminates in a fully leaded and colored panel. Notably, the panels crafted through this technique, as depicted in the photos above and below, boast enhanced strength and longevity compared to the traditional method of stained glass.

Leadbitter Glass have many different lead finishes to choose from and you can view these different finishes in our Leaded Glass section.
