Cheltenham Etched Glass

Leadbitter Glass supplies homes all over Cheltenham with Etched Glass and Victorian Etched Glass Panels each year. Etched Glass is one of the oldest forms of decorative glass but more and more it is used to create modern and contemporary art glass panels. Etched Glass has been used on many of Cheltenham homes, grand buildings and commercial buildings.

Leadbitter Glass also provides Stained Glass, Bevelled Glass and Fused Glass to Cheltenham homes.

All orders placed with Leadbitter Glass receive a free design service. The Client Pages Service is the perfect way to view your etched glass panels before they have even been made. Once you see the Computer Generated Image of how your glass will look, you can request any alterations needed. You may want a border moving, an extra butterfly or a house number made larger. We will make the requested alterations until you are 100% happy with the layout.

Etched Glass Window

Your numbers up!

Etched glass is the perfect form of glass for house names and numbers for door glass panels and fanlights. Hundreds of Cheltenham homes have top lights above the door and these areas are the perfect place to display your house name or number. This type of etched glass is one of the most common requests that Leadbitter Glass receives. If your Cheltenham home has a fanlight above the door, we can create a panel with your house name or house number in etched glass. We can also make matching door glass if required.

Recent commissions for Cheltenham clients….

We have supplied many homes in Cheltenham with our beautiful glass. Below are some examples of local orders.

Etched Glass Swans Window

Way back in 2014 we created this beautiful window featuring etched glass swans and butterflies. Privacy wasn’t an issue for this client so they requested the background to be clear instead of obscure. The link above shows you the proof of the window before we created the actual glass.

Decorative Etched Glass Borders

In 2015 we had a request for 3 panels of different shapes, but all with the same decorative border. This was quite a simple order to create but as standard, we created scale proofs for approval before making the actual glass. The link above will show you how the borders looked on the differing size panels.

Etched Glass House Name & More

In 2011 we created multiple single glazed etched glass panels for clients in Cheltenham. A House Name panel was supplied along with 3 other decorative designs. The link above will take you to their Client Page. This section is where the client gets to view their glass designs before the glass is actually made. If you take a look at the last image, you will notice it is skewed. This specific panel had to be created in that shape because the frame of the old house had distorted over time.

How is Etched Glass created?

Etched Glass can be found on many homes around the city. This type of decorative glass product is very popular in the Cheltenham area and it is ideal for traditional door designs and contemporary projects. This style of art glass gives an amazing effect without taking away any of the natural light. We have produced many etched glass designs that have been installed in Cheltenham and it is a very popular form of decorative glass.

A temporary mask is ‘cut to shape’ and overlaid onto one side of the glass, the glass is then inserted into a shot-blasting booth and coarse grit/sand is fired at high speed over the design. Once an even finish is achieved, the temporary mask is removed, leaving the clear areas unmarked with the ‘blasted’ areas creating the etched design. If the glass is to be a single glazed panel, we will apply a protective sandblast coating to the etched side. If the glass is to be double glazed, we do not add the coating because the etched side would be contained inside the sealed unit.
