Founded in 1994, the Leadbitter Glass Studio has been supplying Etched Glass panels to homes and businesses across Bicester ever since, delivering to every other part of the UK too. The town’s own name is thought to preserve the memory of Beorna, an Anglo-Saxon founder whose fort here has kept his name alive well over a thousand years after he lived.

Etched glass — sandblasted glass, more plainly — permanently frosts sections of clear glass to leave a pattern that’s genuinely part of the pane rather than sitting on it. How Our Etched Glass Is Made

We begin with a sheet of toughened safety glass and apply a mask cut precisely to your chosen pattern. High-pressure abrasive blasted onto the exposed glass wears it down to a permanent frost, while everything under the mask stays perfectly clear — a genuine, one-time change to the glass that’s still there decades on, long after the person who chose the pattern has moved on or moved house.

Because that frost is worked into the glass rather than laid over it, there’s nothing to peel or discolour later — unlike a stick-on “etch effect” film, which tends to yellow and start lifting within a couple of years.
