Founded in 1994, the Leadbitter Glass Studio has been supplying Bevelled Glass panels to homes and businesses across Winchester ever since. We also deliver to every other part of the UK. While Winchester’s period properties were originally fitted with etched or stained glass, Bevelled Glass has become a popular contemporary upgrade over the years for homeowners across the city looking to bring a sharper, more reflective style of decorative glass to their doors and windows.
Our Bevelled Glass designs are created using small pieces of glass assembled into beautiful patterns, supplied as single or double-glazed glass for windows and doors. With hundreds of stock patterns to choose from — including diamonds, squares, rectangles and teardrops — the design possibilities are almost endless. Production only begins once you’ve approved the final drawing.
American Bevelled Glass
American Bevelled Glass remains one of our most popular requests, built from hundreds of small rectangular and square bevels set edge to edge to cover the whole panel. The style is rooted in a long tradition of American glasswork, and it’s a look you’ll likely recognise from film and television. Available in a wide range of widths and lengths, our rectangular pencil bevels give our glass artists plenty of scope to design something individual for your Winchester home.
Each bevel is fitted by hand and UV bonded onto a single sheet of toughened safety glass. Traditionally, lead alone held every small piece together without any supporting glass base — a technique closer to assembling a jigsaw than building a solid panel.
Our modern method addresses the shortfalls of that older technique. A single sheet of toughened glass closes off the gaps a lead-only “jigsaw” panel would leave for draughts, and it can also be supplied as a double-glazed unit for improved insulation. Certain bevel shapes and clusters are available in bronze, blue, or green glass, with a Gluechip texture offered on select pieces for added character.
