Founded in 1994, the Leadbitter Glass Studio has been supplying Bevelled Glass panels to homes and businesses across Watford ever since. We also deliver to every other part of the UK. While Watford’s period properties — many built during the town’s years as the world’s printing capital — were originally fitted with etched or stained glass, Bevelled Glass has become a popular contemporary upgrade over the years for homeowners across the town looking to bring a sharper, more reflective style of decorative glass to their doors and windows.

American Bevelled Glass

American Bevelled Glass is one of our most requested styles — hundreds of small rectangular and square bevels, arranged edge to edge across the whole panel. The name comes from its long association with American glasswork, and you’ll likely recognise the look from Hollywood films and television over the years. The rectangular pencil bevels come in many widths and lengths, so our glass artists have endless possibilities when creating a pattern for your Watford home.

Each bevel is hand-applied, UV bonded directly onto a single sheet of toughened safety glass. The traditional method relied on lead alone to hold the small glass pieces together, with no supporting base glass — closer to assembling a jigsaw than building a solid panel.

That older approach has real drawbacks our modern technique avoids. A single sheet of toughened glass removes the gaps a “jigsaw” panel would otherwise let cold air through, and we can build it as a double-glazed unit too, for even better insulation. Certain bevel shapes and clusters come in bronze, blue, or green glass, and some feature a Gluechip texture for extra distinction.
