Stained Glass Roundel Door – Northampton
In 2026 we were commissioned to create this bespoke stained glass panel, based on our popular split door design 662. Unlike the original design, this project required a much wider single glazed toughened safety glass panel, so we carefully adapted the layout to suit the larger proportions while maintaining the balance and character of the original.
To prevent the wider panel from appearing too open, additional geometric detailing and coloured glass rectangles were introduced throughout the design. These extra elements help fill the space naturally, creating a stronger visual impact without making the panel feel overcrowded.
The panel was manufactured using Stippolyte toughened safety glass, providing the required strength while still allowing plenty of natural light into the entrance. Dark lead strip was chosen to give the design crisp definition and a contemporary appearance, contrasting beautifully against the textured glass.
A carefully selected palette of soft coloured glass was used throughout the rectangular sections. Rather than using extremely pale colours that can almost disappear in bright daylight, we chose slightly richer pastel tones which remain visible in a wide range of lighting conditions while still providing a subtle, elegant finish. The deep ruby red border and central roundel provide striking focal points, complemented by the warm amber highlights and delicate purple ring surrounding the centrepiece.
The finished panel combines traditional stained glass craftsmanship with modern materials, creating a durable, low-maintenance entrance feature that offers privacy, colour and character without compromising the amount of natural light entering the property.
