Founded in 1994, the Leadbitter Glass Studio has been supplying Fused Glass panels to homes and businesses across Reading ever since. We also deliver to every other part of the UK. Where Reading’s period homes — many built during the town’s “Three Bs” industrial boom — were traditionally fitted with etched or stained glass, Fused Glass has become a popular contemporary upgrade in recent years, bringing a modern finish to doors and windows across the town.
Our Fused Glass designs always begin with an etched glass background pattern, onto which small fused glass tiles are UV bonded, giving each panel real depth and texture alongside its colour. Every panel is supplied as single or double-glazed glass, made to your own sizes for windows and doors. Almost every panel we make qualifies for free delivery to Reading addresses.
We’ve made glass for a Prime Minister’s home, for Hollywood film sets, and for well-known singers and billionaires — but the vast majority of our work is for homeowners just like you. Our Free Client Pages Design Service
Every order includes free access to our Client Pages design service. Within a few days of ordering, we’ll send you a computer-generated proof showing exactly how your chosen design will look, built to your own glass sizes. You can ask us to adjust the tile colours, resize elements, or move the pattern within the panel until you’re completely happy. Production only begins once you’ve approved the final drawing.
How Fused Glass Is Made
Every Fused Glass panel starts life as toughened safety glass, sandblasted first to build the etched background. We then individually shape small pieces of coloured glass and UV bond them onto that surface, layering the design up piece by piece.
Standing roughly 6mm proud of the surface, the fused tiles add genuine texture exactly where it’s wanted, while the rest of the panel stays flat, built on the same toughened glass base used across our entire range. This preserves the same durability and efficiency as a single sheet of toughened glass — there’s never any need for re-leading or re-glazing — and a double-glazed version is available for extra insulation.
