How is Etched Glass created?

Etched Glass has become a common feature in many homes across the county. This widely embraced decorative glass product is particularly favoured in the Norfolk area, catering to both traditional door designs and contemporary projects alike. The versatility of this art glass style is remarkable, providing an impressive aesthetic effect while preserving the abundance of natural light. In the Norfolk region, we have crafted numerous etched glass designs, solidifying its status as a highly sought-after form of decorative glass.

The glass undergoes a process wherein a vinyl transfer, cut to shape, is overlaid onto one side. Subsequently, the glass is introduced into a blasting booth, where coarse grit is propelled at high speed across the glass. When an even finish is achieved, the vinyl transfer is removed, resulting in the clear areas remaining unmarked. The ‘blasted’ areas unveil the etched glass design. In the case of a single glazed panel, a protective sandblast coating is applied to the etched side. However, in instances where the glass is to be double glazed, the coating is not applied because the etched side is enclosed within the sealed unit.
