Mackintosh Doorway – Corby
Hello Brian, below is your drawing showing all 4 panels. The leaded glass panel will be made using Stippolyte Glass and the other three panels [...]
Founded in 1994, the Leadbitter Glass Studio has been supplying Overlay Stained Glass panels to homes and businesses across Corby ever since, delivering to every other part of the UK too. The Scottish workers who came to Corby for its steelworks weren’t just filling shifts — they built a genuine community here, one that’s still remembered fondly in the town’s nickname, “Little Scotland”.

Every panel is designed and built in our own studio, whether from a photo you send us, an idea you describe, or one of the hundreds of patterns already in our gallery. We offer Overlay Stained Glass as single toughened glazing or as a double-glazed unit, and it works equally well on a front door, a landing window, or any other glazed opening around the home. Most Corby orders qualify for free delivery.

Our work has gone into a Prime Minister’s home, Hollywood film sets, and the houses of well-known musicians and billionaires — though most of what we ship out still goes to homeowners here in Corby. We also produce other styles of Decorative Glass for local clients, including Bevelled Glass, Etched Glass, and Fused Glass.

A private Client Page comes with every Corby order, and that’s where a full-colour drawing of your design lands within a few days, scaled to your glass. Colour too pale? A motif sitting oddly? Flag it and we’ll revise and resend — as many times as needed — because manufacturing only begins once the design genuinely fits its place, rather than merely occupying it.

Image above created using Minster Glass.
Traditional leaded glass is stitched together from dozens of small fragments held by soft lead, which is exactly why it cracks and lets the weather in as the years go by — pieces that never quite settled together properly in the first place. We build Overlay Stained Glass the other way round: the lead lines and the colour both go directly onto one uninterrupted sheet of toughened safety glass, so the finished panel behaves as a single, settled whole rather than a patchwork that’s merely holding together.
Pilkington K Glass is available if you’d like it, and current building regulations require it for new window and door installations, in Corby as everywhere else in the UK.

We build every panel from toughened or laminated safety glass — durability matters to us just as much as how the finished piece looks.
We hear it often: a homeowner pays good money for traditional leaded glass, only to watch individual pieces crack within weeks of fitting. Our Overlay Stained Glass exists specifically to put that problem to rest.

We shape lead strips onto the toughened glass first, laying down an uncoloured outline of your chosen design. Once that’s set, we flip the glass and colour each section by hand, working within its own leaded boundary.
Matching lead lines then go on the reverse, mirroring the front exactly — the finished panel is leaded and coloured on both faces, not just the side facing outward.

Several lead finishes are available too — see our Leaded Glass page for the full range.
