How is Etched Glass created?

Etched Glass can be found on many homes around the city. This type of decorative glass product is very popular in the Bromley area and it is ideal for traditional door designs and contemporary projects. This style of art glass gives an amazing effect without taking away any of the natural light. We have produced many etched glass designs that have been installed in Bromley and it is a very popular form of decorative glass.

A temporary template is ‘cut to shape’ and overlaid onto one side of the glass. The glass is then inserted into a sandblasting machine and coarse grit/sand is fired at high speed over the design. Once an even finish is achieved, the template is removed, leaving the clear areas unmarked with the ‘blasted’ areas creating the etched design. If the glass is to be a single glazed panel, we will apply a protective sandblast coating to the etched side. If the glass is to be double glazed, we do not add the coating because the etched side would be contained inside the sealed unit.
