Founded in 1994, the Leadbitter Glass Studio has been supplying Bevelled Glass panels to homes and businesses across Cambridge ever since. We also deliver to every other part of the UK. While Cambridge’s period properties — many built in the Georgian streets around Petersfield and Maid’s Causeway — were originally fitted with etched or stained glass, Bevelled Glass has become a popular contemporary upgrade over the years for homeowners across the city looking to bring a sharper, more reflective style of decorative glass to their doors and windows.

Our Bevelled Glass designs are created using small pieces of glass assembled into beautiful patterns, supplied as single or double-glazed glass for windows and doors. With hundreds of stock patterns to choose from — including diamonds, squares, rectangles and teardrops — the design possibilities are almost endless. Almost every panel we make qualifies for free delivery to Cambridge addresses.

We’ve made glass for a Prime Minister’s home, for Hollywood film sets, and for well-known singers and billionaires — but the vast majority of our work is for homeowners just like you. Our Free Client Pages Design Service

Every order includes free access to our Client Pages design service. Within a few days of ordering, we’ll send you a computer-generated proof showing exactly how your chosen design will look, built to your own glass sizes. All bevels in our library come with exact dimensions in millimetres, so you’ll know straight away whether your preferred pattern fits your window or door. Production only begins once you’ve approved the final drawing.

American Bevelled Glass

American Bevelled Glass is a firm favourite among our customers, made from hundreds of small rectangular and square bevels set edge-to-edge to cover the entire panel. The style has deep roots in American glasswork, and it’s one you’ll likely recognise from film and television. Our rectangular pencil bevels are available in a broad range of widths and lengths, giving our glass artists plenty of room to design something distinctive for your Cambridge home.

Each bevel is applied by hand and UV bonded onto a single sheet of toughened safety glass. The traditional method relied on lead alone to hold the small pieces together, without any supporting glass base — closer in construction to a jigsaw than a solid panel.

How Our Bevelled Glass Is Made

Our modern technique overcomes the limitations of that older approach. A single sheet of toughened glass closes off the gaps a lead-only “jigsaw” panel would leave for cold draughts, and it can also be supplied as a double-glazed unit for improved insulation. Certain bevel shapes and clusters are available in bronze, blue, or green glass, with select pieces featuring a Gluechip texture for extra character.
