This old technique creates a jigsaw-like result that is neither rigid nor durable. Although this procedure is sometimes still used today, the modern technique of overlay stained glass is a more popular and versatile product. Toughened safety glass is always used when we create overlay stained glass so the finished panel is a lot more durable than the traditional ‘jigsaw’ method. When using natural lead strip, we can solder the joints of the lead and then rub an aging acid into the lead to make it unrecognisable from a traditional leaded light.
