See your glass before it is made

Every customer that orders with our studio will receive their own personal design service from one of our experienced glass artists. The Client Pages Service is a great way to visualise your preferred design before our artists get to work to make the glass. A few days after placing an order with us, you will receive your very own Computer Generated Image for approval. Once you see the scale drawing you can ask us for changes to the layout of the pattern before we start work on your panel(s). You may want a decorative glass border moving slightly or an extra bit of decoration added. We will make the changes you request and if you need any more changes, just let us know. We want you to be 100% happy with how your glass will look before you receive it.

Etched Glass Borders & House Name

A client approached us in 2021 to create multiple matching etched glass panels for their front door. The door glass required a traditional border and the panel above the door was to include the house name. These types of requests are very common and we have created many thousands of panels like these. The link above will show you the drawing we created before work started on the actual glass.

Etched Glass Circles Window – St Neots

In 2022 a customer requested a very unique piece of etched glass for a feature window. The client provided their own drawing and it consisted of circles and interlinking circles. We created the glass as a toughened double glazed unit. Once our version of the drawing was approved we set to work on making the glass. the link above shows you how the glass was going to look once completed.

Your numbers up!

Etched glass is a great choice when house names and numbers for door glass or Transoms are required. Homes all over the Huntingdon area have glass panels above the front door and this is commonly known as a transom panel. This panel is sometimes known as a fanlight or a toplight. This is the ideal place to display the name or number of your home. We create thousands of glass panels each year and house names and numbers are one of the most popular orders we receive. If your home has a door transom, we can create your house name or number in your chosen font and etched glass border. Our studio can also create matching glass panels for your door if required.

How is Etched Glass made?

We do not use ‘etched glass effect stickers’ on any of our glass, we actually etch the glass. The etching process happens when the glass is sandblasted at high pressure so the design becomes a permanent feature of the glass. Some companies may appear to offer ‘Etched Glass’ but actually just apply an etched effect sticker to the glass. Stickers can and will ‘yellow’ with UV exposure from the sun and vinyl can and will shrink after a short period of time.

Some other companies screen-print the ‘Etched Glass Effect’ onto the glass and this product can also discolour in time. Always confirm you are paying for a genuine glass product because as the well known saying goes – Buy cheap, Buy twice. See a result of ordering fake etched glass.

Our process

A temporary mask is ‘cut to shape’ and applied to one side of the glass. The areas of the design that need to remain clear are left on the glass while the sections that need etching are removed. The stencilled glass is then placed in a sandblast machine and sand is fired at high pressure across the glass.

Once an even etched finish is achieved, the temporary decorative mask is then peeled away from the glass. The protected areas are left clear with the unprotected areas now being etched. For single glazed glass, we apply a protective sandblast coating to the etched glass side. If the glass is double glazed, we do not add the coating because the etched side would is protected inside the sealed unit.
