Founded in 1994, the Leadbitter Glass Studio has been supplying Bevelled Glass panels to homes and businesses across Northampton ever since. We also deliver to every other part of the UK. While Northampton’s period properties — many built for the workers of the town’s famous shoe factories — were originally fitted with etched or stained glass, Bevelled Glass has become a popular contemporary upgrade over the years for homeowners across the town looking to bring a sharper, more reflective style of decorative glass to their doors and windows.
Our Bevelled Glass designs are created using small pieces of glass assembled into beautiful patterns, supplied as single or double-glazed glass for windows and doors. All bevels in our library come with exact dimensions in millimetres, so you’ll know straight away whether your preferred pattern fits your window or door. Production only begins once you’ve approved the final drawing.
American Bevelled Glass
American Bevelled Glass is consistently one of our most popular requests — a design built from hundreds of small rectangular and square bevels set edge to edge across the whole panel. Long associated with American glasswork, it’s a style you may well recognise from film and television. The rectangular pencil bevels are available in many widths and lengths, giving our glass artists real freedom when building a design for your Northampton home.
Each individual bevel is hand-fitted and UV bonded onto a single sheet of toughened safety glass. In the traditional method, lead alone held every small piece together, with no base glass supporting it at all — the finished panel worked more like a jigsaw than a solid sheet.
Our modern technique avoids the drawbacks of that older approach. A single sheet of toughened glass eliminates the gaps a lead-only “jigsaw” panel would leave for cold air to pass through, and we can also supply it as a double-glazed unit for improved insulation. Selected bevel shapes and clusters are available in bronze, blue, or green glass, with a Gluechip texture offered on some for extra character.
