Founded in 1994, the Leadbitter Glass Studio has been supplying Bevelled Glass panels to homes and businesses across Luton ever since. We also deliver to every other part of the UK. While Luton’s period properties — many built or extended during the town’s hat-making boom — were originally fitted with etched or stained glass, Bevelled Glass has become a popular contemporary upgrade over the years for homeowners across the town looking to bring a sharper, more reflective style of decorative glass to their doors and windows.

Our Bevelled Glass designs are created using small pieces of glass assembled into beautiful patterns, supplied as single or double-glazed glass for windows and doors. All bevels in our library come with exact dimensions in millimetres, so you’ll know straight away whether your preferred pattern fits your window or door. Production only begins once you’ve approved the final drawing.

American Bevelled Glass

A firm favourite among our customers, American Bevelled Glass is made from hundreds of small rectangular and square bevels set edge-to-edge to cover the entire panel. The style has deep roots in American glasswork, and it’s one you’ll likely recognise from film and television. Our rectangular pencil bevels are available in a broad range of widths and lengths, giving our glass artists plenty of room to design something distinctive for your Luton home.

Each bevel is applied by hand and UV bonded onto a single sheet of toughened safety glass. The traditional method relied on lead alone to hold the small pieces together, without any supporting glass base — closer in construction to a jigsaw than a solid panel.

Our modern technique overcomes the limitations of that older approach. A single sheet of toughened glass closes off the gaps a lead-only “jigsaw” panel would leave for cold draughts, and we’re also able to build it as a double-glazed unit for further insulation. Some bevel shapes and clusters are available in bronze, blue, or green glass, with select pieces featuring a Gluechip texture for extra character.
