Founded in 1994, the Leadbitter Glass Studio has been supplying Bevelled Glass panels to homes and businesses across Blackburn. We also deliver to every other part of the UK. Blackburn’s grand Victorian architecture — from the Gothic Revival Town Hall to the terraced streets built during the town’s cotton-milling boom — reflects an era when decorative glass was a genuine mark of quality in a home’s doors and windows, and it’s a style that still suits the town’s period properties well today.

Our Bevelled Glass designs are created using small pieces of glass assembled into beautiful patterns, supplied as single or double-glazed glass for windows and doors. With hundreds of stock patterns to choose from — including diamonds, squares, rectangles and teardrops — the design possibilities are almost endless. Bevelled glass is one of the most popular forms of decorative glass today, and can also be combined with stained glass overlay borders and centres to add colour to the panel. Almost every panel we make qualifies for free delivery to Blackburn addresses.

Within a few days of ordering, we’ll send you a computer-generated proof showing exactly how your chosen design will look, built to your own glass sizes. All bevels in our library come with exact dimensions in millimetres, so you’ll know straight away whether your preferred pattern fits your window or door. Production only begins once you’ve approved the final drawing.

American Bevelled Glass

One of our most popular requests is for American Bevelled Glass — a style made using hundreds of small rectangle and square pieces, covering the whole panel. It’s called “American bevelled” because this style has long been a fashion of American glass, and you may have spotted it in Hollywood movies and TV shows over the years. The rectangular pencil bevels come in many widths and lengths, so our glass artists have endless possibilities when creating a pattern for your Blackburn home.

Bevelled glass is created by hand — decorative bevels are UV bonded onto a single sheet of toughened safety glass. Traditionally, small glass pieces were held together with lead alone, with no base glass at all, making the finished panel more like a jigsaw than a rigid sheet.

Our modern technique has real advantages over that original method. Using one solid sheet of toughened glass reduces the possibility of cold air passing into the home through the gaps in the “jigsaw,” and we can also manufacture as a double-glazed unit for even better energy efficiency. Some bevel shapes and clusters are available in bronze, blue, or green coloured glass, and a few come with a Gluechip textured face for an even more distinctive finish.
