Remake Etched Glass Background Panel – Northampton

Etched Glass Fleur de LysIn 2013 the Leadbitter Glass Studio was asked by a client from Northamptonshire to re-create a broken Etched Glass Background panel in their home.

The client had originally contacted their insurance company to have the glass replaced but the insurance company informed them that after inspecting the glass design, their ‘preferred glass company’ could not undertake such detailed work. The client forwarded the photos of the original glass design to us but in order for us to calculate a price for the replacement glass we needed to know the size of the pattern. The client confirmed that the Fleur de Lys shape featured in the glass was just 35mm x 35mm and that there were hundreds featured throughout the panel.

Due to the small dimensions of the design, the diagonal lines ended up measuring around 1mm thick and this is probably what caused the insurance companies ‘preferred glass supplier’ to refuse this specific contract. Many glass companies that create sandblasted glass do not like manufacturing very detailed work but here at Leadbitter Glass, we undertake some of the most intricate etched glass contracts in the country.

Once the etching/sandblasting was complete, we protected the sandblasted side of the glass with our Sandblast Protection product to help reduce staining of the etched areas. The glass was created using 4mm toughened glass.
