Gloucester Etched Glass
Etched glass or Sandblasted glass is one of the oldest forms of decorative glass on the market but it can also be used to create a truly modern and contemporary art glass feature and it has been used on many of Gloucesters grand buildings and commercial buildings. This traditional design on the right has been created using a sandblasted design on clear glass.
How is Etched Glass created?
Etched glass is a great decorative glass product that is very popular in the Gloucester area and it is ideal for traditional door designs and contemporary commercial projects. This style of art glass gives an amazing effect without taking away any of the natural light. We have produced many etched glass designs that have been installed in the Gloucester area and it is a very popular form of decorative glass.
A vinyl transfer is ‘cut to shape’ and overlayed onto one side of the glass, the glass is then inserted into a shot blasting booth and coarse grit/sand is fired at high speed over the design. Once an even finish is achieved, the vinyl transfer is removed, leaving the clear areas unmarked with the ‘blasted’ areas creating the etched design.
Your numbers up!!

Etched glass is an ideal form of decorative glass for text and numbers on door glass and door glass top lights. Many homes in Gloucester have top lights above the door with an etched number and this is one of the most common requests that Leadbitter Glass receives. If your Gloucester home has a top light above the door, we can create a panel with your house number/name in etched glass and we can even show you exactly what it will look like before we manufacture it by using our Client Pages service. This service is free to all Gloucester customers when an order is placed

Brilliant Cut Glass Copy – Gloucester
In 2018, a client approached us to inquire if we could create a toughened glass brilliant cut panel using the same pattern from their broken door glass. While we do not offer brilliant cut glass, we informed the client that we could supply a toughened glass panel with a flat version of the same design. The client prioritised a toughened panel over replicating the brilliant cut aspect, as the original glass had broken too easily. The main title link above leads to the client’s personal page on our website, where we uploaded our version of their design for approval.
Laundry Door – Stroud
In 2018, a client sent us a unique design for their Laundry Door glass, featuring clothes on a washing line. The proof we created can be seen in the link above. This was the only time we’ve crafted this particular design for a customer. To complete the look, we added a simple line border around the design. The background was mostly obscured, with the clear glass detailing providing a good level of privacy, effectively concealing the contents of the laundry room behind the glass.
Etched Glass Heron & Reeds – Stroud
In 2021, a customer placed an order for two different designs from our website. Our etched glass Heron design, which had been supplied to many customers over the years, was created for the client’s door. Additionally, we created two wheat and grass etched glass panels for fanlights above a door in the client’s home. The main link above will show the drawings created for client approval.
Etched Glass Tree Branches Door – Gloucester
In 2020, a client approached us to inquire if we could create a set of 3 door glass panels with one design spread across the entire set. The client loved our Spring Tree design from our Shadows of Nature Range. They wanted the branches to spread across the whole glazed area, creating the effect of tree branches outside. The main link above shows the drawing we created for their approval before making the actual glass.
Hatherop Castle School Logo – Cirencester
In 2012, Hatherop Castle School in Gloucestershire approached us to create an etched glass window featuring their school logo. The logo was a detailed sketch of the school building itself. As shown in the photo above, the final result was a stunning etched glass window that serves as a welcoming feature for visitors entering the school. The glass was crafted using toughened safety glass for added durability.
