The Leadbitter Glass studio supplies homes across Dundee with Etched Glass and Victorian Etched Glass Panels every year. Etched Glass is one of the oldest forms of decorative glass but increasingly it is used to produce contemporary and modern art glass panels. Etched Glass has been used on many of Dundee homes, grand buildings and commercial buildings over the years.

All orders placed with our studio receive a free design service. The Client Pages Service is the perfect way to view how your etched glass panels look before they are created. You will get the opportunity to request changes before we start work on your panel(s). Once you see the Computer Generated Image, you can request any changes you wish. You may want a border moving, an extra butterfly or a house number made larger. We will make the requested alterations until you are 100% happy with the design and want us to proceed with production.

How is Etched Glass made?
Etched Glass can be found on hundreds of homes around the city. This type of decorative glass product is very popular in the Dundee area and it is ideal for elegant traditional door designs and contemporary projects. This style of art glass produces a stunning effect without taking away any of the natural light from your home. We have produced many etched glass designs over the years which are installed across Dundee.
A temporary mask is ‘cut to shape’ and overlaid onto one side of the glass. The glass is then inserted into a sandblasting booth and coarse grit/sand is then fired at high speed over the design. Once an even finish is achieved, the mask is removed, leaving the protected areas clear with the unprotected areas being etched. If the glass is to be a single glazed panel, we will apply a protective sandblast coating to the etched side. If the glass is to be double glazed, we do not add the coating because the etched side would be contained within the sealed unit.
