How is it created?
Etched Glass panels can be found in many Carlisle homes. This type of decorative glass product is very popular in the Carlisle area and it is ideal for traditional doors and even contemporary projects. Sandblasted glass (etched) gives an amazing effect without taking away any of the natural light. We have produced many etched glass designs that have been installed in Carlisle and it is our most popular form of decorative glass.
A temporary mask is ‘cut to shape’ and overlaid onto one side of the glass, the glass is then inserted into a sand-blasting booth and coarse grit/sand is fired at high speed over the design. Once an even finish is achieved, the mask is removed, leaving the clear areas unmarked with the ‘blasted’ areas creating the etched design. If the glass is to be single glazed, we will apply a protective sandblast coating to the etched side. If the glass is double glazed, we do not add the coating because the etched side would be sealed inside of the double glazed unit.
