Etched glass or Sandblasted glass as it is also known is one of the oldest forms of decorative glass on the market but it can also be used to create truly modern and contemporary art glass features and it has been used on many of Hulls grand buildings and commercial buildings down the years. This Shadows Of Nature design on the left has been created using an etched glass tree on  Satin glass.

How is Etched Glass created?

Etched or Sandblasted glass is a great decorative glass product that is very popular in the Hull area today and it is perfect for traditional door designs and even contemporary commercial projects. This style of decorative glass gives a truly amazing effect without taking away the natural light. The Leadbitter Glass studio has produced many etched glass designs that have been installed in the Hull area and it is a very popular form of decorative glass in this area.

A vinyl transfer with the design cut into it is ‘cut to shape’ and overlaid onto one side of the glass, the glass is then inserted into a sandblasting booth and coarse grit/sand is fired at the glass at high speed all over the design. Once an even finish is achieved, the vinyl transfer is then removed leaving the clear areas unmarked with the ‘blasted’ areas creating the etched design.

Etched glass is also an ideal form of decorative glass for text and numbers on door glass and door glass top lights. Many homes in Hull have top lights above the door with an etched number and this is one of the most common requests that Leadbitter Glass receives.
