Is Etched Glass Hard To Clean?

When glass is etched, it creates millions of microscopic pockets on the surface of the glass which gives it the the obscure etched effect. These pockets can potentially catch dirt and grease which makes them a little more tricky to clean than a clear panel of glass. Fingerprints on the etched face of the glass can sometimes be an issue for people, but this doesn’t have to be the case.

Protecting single glazed etched glass

At Leadbitter Glass, we apply a protective coating (BriteGuard) free of charge to all single glazed panels. This acts as a barrier reducing the opportunity for dirt and grease to get caught in the etched pockets meaning smudges on the etched surface can be easily cleaned. We recommend using a soft demister pad that is usually used for wiping the inside of a car windscreen, you can find out more here.

What about double glazed units?

Double glazed units are even more protected because the face of the etched panel which has the microscopic pockets is sealed inside the unit. This means the only faces that can gather dirt and are standard glass so you can clean them as you would any panel.
