Cambridge Etched Glass

victorian_etched_glass_doorEtched Glass supplier to the areas of Cambridge

Etched glass or Sandblasted glass is one of the oldest forms of decorative glass on the market but it can also be used to create a truly modern and contemporary art glass feature and it has been used on many of Cambridges grand buildings and commercial buildings. This traditional design has been created by sandblasting the background and leaving the pattern clear.

How is Etched Glass created?

Etched glass is a great decorative glass product that is very popular in the Cambridge area and it is ideal for traditional door designs and contemporary commercial projects. This style of art glass gives an amazing effect without taking away any of the natural light. We have produced many etched glass designs that have been installed in the Cambridge area and it is a very popular form of decorative glass.

A vinyl transfer is ‘cut to shape’ and overlayed onto one side of the glass, the glass is then inserted into a shot blasting booth and coarse grit/sand is fired at high speed over the design. Once an even finish is achieved, the vinyl transfer is removed, leaving the clear areas unmarked with the ‘blasted’ areas creating the etched design.

Etched glass house numbers

Your numbers up!!

Etched glass is an ideal form of decorative glass for text and numbers on door glass and door glass top lights. Many homes in Cambridge have top lights above the door with an etched number and this is one of the most common requests that Leadbitter Glass receives. If your Cambridge home has a top light above the door, we can create a panel with your house number/name in etched glass and we can even show you exactly what it will look like before we manufacture it by using our Client Pages service. This service is free to all Cambridge customers when an order is placed

Recent commissions for Cambridge clients….

We have supplied many homes in Cambridge with our beautiful glass. Below are some examples of local orders.

Art Deco Door Number – Ely

A few years back we were asked to create an Art Deco door panel featuring a house number. The client wanted a clear background as they were not concerned about privacy. Once an order was placed we started searching for a suitable font. The main link above shows you the drawing we created for approval.

Butterflies & Reeds Door

A client recently fell in love with our popular Butterflies & Reeds design. This specific pattern is usually chosen by customers looking for an internal room divider panel but this client required a much smaller panel. Their 1930s only required a small glazed piece and they wanted to showcase this design. The main link above shows you the drawing we created for approval.

Traditional House Name Panel – St Neots

More than ten years ago we were asked by clients to create a traditional House Name panel. We asked a few questions about styles they like and we showed them some current borders from our gallery. We then had a good idea of the style they liked. The main link above shows the finished panel that we created for their home. This new design has since become one of the most popular House Name designs that we supply.

Bamboo & Oak Leaves Door

Cambridge area clients contacted us in 2012 to enquire if we could create a bespoke pair of shaped glass panels. The clients wanted Chinese Bamboo to feature on one side of the door with English Oak Leaves on the other side. The customers both worked in the UK and also in Hong Kong. The project was to be a combination of English and Chinese rolled into one door. The main link above shows a photo the finished etched glass panels once fitted.

Littleport Church Crucifix

In 2010 the St Georges Church in Littleport was having a new front door installed. A local design company contacted us to see if we could create a pair of etched glass for the 15th century building. The glass needed to be curved and it needed to be 6mm toughened glass. The designer sent us cardboard templates along with a drawing for us to create the new glass design.
