Etched Glass Crucifix – Cambridge

In late 2010 the St Georges Church in Littleport, Cambridgeshire required a new front door for the 15th century religious building. A local design company contacted our studio to enquire if we could create a pair of etched glass crucifix’s on shaped toughened 6mm glass for the new front door. The designer emailed over a drawing and we created a computer generated image of how the glass would look once completed.

The designer forwarded the shaped cardboard templates to us and the 6mm toughened glass was ordered. Once the toughened glass was ready we created a vinyl mask of the design and overlayed it onto the glass. The glass was then sandblasted leaving the protected areas of the glass clear. As the glass was installed single glazed, the client asked for our Sandblast Protection to be applied to the areas of the etched glass crucifix to protect the design from greasy finger marks and stains.
